Virtual Book Club For Kids

So I have decided to link up with the the Virtual Book Club For Kids once a month to learn about other great children's books and activities and crafts to go along with them! This month the featured author is Lois Ehlert. I have chosen the book Fish Eyes because I did a wonderful craft with my son to learn his colors and numbers that involved fishing. This book is very cute and I love the colorful illustrations.

So here is my Fishin For Colors activity. I hope you enjoy!

1. You need to get all the supplies. You will need different color foam sheets, a dowel rod, 2 pieces of string, scissors, strong magnets, a pencil, and a fish pattern.

2.  Cut out the fish pattern and trace it on each color of foam sheet. 

3.  Cut the fish out of each foam sheet.

4.  Place a magnet on each fish. I placed my magnets on as eyes on the fish. 

5.  Then cut your dowel rod in half to make 2 fishing poles. Tie a piece of string on one end of the rod. 6.  Then cut a "J" shape out of a gray or black foam sheet to make a hook. Tie the "J" on the other end of the string and place a magnet on the "J"

7.  Repeat step 6 to make the second fishing pole

The whole project cost me $7.28. And it was totally worth it when I saw the smile on his face and watched him enjoy it so much. He fished on the floor, table, and tub (minus the water). I hope your kids enjoy it as much as mine!

Fishin' For Colors

Today I wanted to share a craft learning game I made for my 2 1/2 yr. old son. I got the idea from Parenting magazine. They did it with fish with math equations on them. Since my son isn't there yet I decided to use it to teach him colors. He just hasn't got the hang of colors so I wanted to try and teach him in a fun way and I was successful! He loves the game so much that he played it all afternoon. We fished on the ground, on the table, and even out of the tub, minus the water of course. I intend to use the fish to teach numbers and colors next by putting the alphabet and numbers on the fish. I simply just ask him to fish for a certain color. It is so simple but he loves the idea of fishing. So here is how I made them.

My New Fridge Creation

I have been looking all over for a good calendar to put on my fridge to keep up with our schedule as a family and our dinner menu for the week so I decided to make my own. I used a website called www.scrapblog.com which is awesome! I am addicted to it. I am not completely satisfied with the outcome but I can make changes and always switch out what I put in the frame. I am going to buy a frame and put magnets on the back so that it can go on the fridge.  I will write on it with a dry erase marker! I am pretty proud of my creation for now! :)

Valentine's Day Gift For Daddy

So I got this idea for a gift for Brian this year from the kids. Really it is something I can always look back at and it will be in our house so it is kind of a gift to myself. :) I used Jackson's hand prints and Ella's footprints and made them into a heart. I then put a picture of them in it and framed it. I had it pictured to be a lot cuter in my head but I am still happy with it. I think I am going to frame it in a nicer frame but I just used one I had lying around the house for the time being. I already gave it to Brian and he loved it. I also scanned the image into the computer and made it into a card on the website www.cardstore.com. I am going to send it to the grandparents as a valentine's day card. I hope it looks okay as a card. We shall see. ;)
